Today we celebrate Dads — because if you are a TGSG reader — you are a Dad vs. a Father. You know how to get down on the ground and get dirty with your kids. You know where the best fishing holes are and that stories just sound better when told around a campfire. You know how to belly laugh, and have even been spotted tearing up when Bambi’s mother meets her fateful end. You know that life is about more than a paycheck and rules, and you are teaching by example.

So cheers to all the Dads out there! For every closet you check for monsters. For every time you relinquish the giant foam finger at the stadium, when we know that it’s you who really wants to wave it. For every game of hoops in the driveway or frisbee in the park. And for every time you have to step back and let them go, because after all, that’s what Dads do.

It’s Saturday, which means it’s time to play Mystery Critter here at TGSG! A little game to put your wildlife knowledge to the test and have a little fun learning about some of the amazing critters we share the planet with. Today’s Mystery Critter was selected by my Twitter friend, Marie.

So let’s get to it, nature detectives! Put on your thinking caps and let’s play. And remember, no cheating!

CRITTER CLUES:

I have an elongated body;
My gestation period is 8 1/2 to 9 1/2 months;
I am currently being reintroduced into the Midwest, but can be found in the North and along the East coast of the US;
I am brown; and
I am a very good swimmer.

You might not get the chance to see this Mystery Critter, but there is plenty of wildlife all around you.
