Play, Not Pay…

Santa checking into Opus

Black Friday. Cyber Monday.

Too much Tuesday…Way-Overboard Wednesday.

Need I go on?

This year, love more and spend less.

Play as a family. It’s these beautiful memories that children remember into adulthood — not how much you spend or the latest video game.

Stuff fades, but experiences last a lifetime.

Here is a bit of inspiration. BIG thanks to my partner SC Johnson Shout, for doing this great Go Play video series with me. Look for several more coming after the new year! :-)

10 Things the Grass Stain Guru is Thankful For

Empire State of Turkey

Let’s think of this post as our virtual Thanksgiving table, shall we? So let’s join hands and all share what we are thankful for.

OK, I’ll start…

10.  The smell of the sidewalk after a warm summer rain.

9.  The sound of leaves crunching under my feet on a fall hike.

8. SQUIRRELS. (Seriously, they bring me endless joy.)

7.  The feeling of mud between my toes and grass beneath my feet.

6.  Crocuses sticking their colorful heads up out of the cold earth,          reminding me that spring really will come.

5. Staring at the ocean and understanding what forever looks like.

4. The feeling of sun on my face and breeze in my hair.

3. The smell of lilacs and honeysuckle.

2. The fact that I was raised as a Free Range kid and allowed to develop my own sense of self, love of the natural world and the type of resiliency and capacity for wonder that allows me to be a happy adult.

1. My readers and the #playoutdoors and #GoPlay family on Twitter (you know who you are)! How amazing is it to grow up to do what you love and connect with others who believe in what you do? THANK YOU!

Thank you all for being in my world. Wishing you the happiest of Thanksgivings, or to those from elsewhere — a great big beautiful day!

Greetings Nature Detectives! Can you believe it’s November, and the Holiday Season is upon us?!

But remember, just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you and the kids can get out there and play and explore nature! Dress is layers and keep moving, you’ll keep plenty warm. Besides, it’s a great excuse to make hot chocolate — to warm up after an outdoor adventure!

So, let’s get to our Mystery Critter. Put on your thinking caps and let’s get to it! And remember — no cheating. ;-)

CRITTER CLUES:

  • I make my home in pine-oak forests and woodlands
  • I have a unique voice
  • I was once almost hunted to extinction
  • I am a fast runner
  • I am a polygamist

So, what am I?

Make your guess then go to eNature for the answer and more interesting facts.

Did you get it right?

If not, no worries. You will have another chance soon!

Remember, when looking for wildlife, keep your eyes and ears open! What critters can you spot in your neck of the woods this weekend? Be sure to tell us!

And don’t forget! Join the Wildobs community and share your wild adventures with the world.
