Nature Play: Why Sticks & Stones Rock!

betheAwhile back, I was interviewed by the great folks at KaBOOM! about nature play.

Since we are nearing the end of Children & Nature Awareness Month, I think it is the perfect time to remind all we adult types why nature play is so important — for all of us.

Please give the interview a listen. I talk about the many benefits of nature play, as well as tips and concrete ideas — and spend time dispelling some of the myths that are pervasive in today’s fear-based parenting.

I would love to hear about your play memories from childhood, and discuss any questions or concerns you have about outdoor play in today’s society.

Mystery Critter #45

Life through a lens

As Dirty Harry would say, “Are you feeling lucky?”

That’s right, folks — it’s time to put your sleuthing skills to the test with our 45th round of Mystery Critter!

From the hairy, to the feathered, to the slimy — we have had a parade of critters here at The Guru.

So, let’s put on those thinking caps and see who’s visiting this week! :-)

CRITTER CLUES:

  • I range in color from olive green to scarlet
  • I make pine and oak woodlands my home
  • I’m pretty good at camouflaging myself
  • My behavior has been called secretive

So, what am I?

Make your guess then go to eNature for the answer and more interesting facts. You’ll also find a bit more about me here.

Did you get it right?

If not, no worries. You will have another chance next week!

So, get out there and see what there is to see. Remember, the only thing you need to explore nature is a door. Unplug and get outside!

And don’t forget! Join the Wildobs community and share your wild adventures with the world.

OK, who’s with me?! I am ready to let my hair down and have some fun. Too much work and not enough living.

So, let’s remedy that. Let’s get our #playoutdoors on!  :-)

Why not…

As always, it doesn’t matter what you do — just unplug and get outside.

There is a whole gorgeous planet out there just waiting for you. Seriously.
