Mystery Critter #14

Vision Thing

It’s Saturday, which means on thing around here — time to play Mystery Critter — a little game to test your wildlife knowledge and inspire you to find the wild in your world. And let me give you a hint: the answer is NOT Yogi Bear (although, who doesn’t love a pic-a-nic basket?!).

So, are you ready, my wildlife detectives? Put on those thinking caps and let’s get to it. Let’s see if you are “smarter than the average bear!” And remember — no cheating!

CRITTER CLUES:

  • I hibernate;
  • My habitat is yards, woodlands, and forest edges;
  • I eat seeds, vegetation, slugs, nuts, and carrion;
  • I have 3-5 young per year; and
  • I (or one of my “cousins”) am found throughout the country and in Canada.

What am I? Make your guess, and then go here for the answer and more interesting facts. Did you get it right?! If not, no worries — you’ll have another chance next week!

Odds are you have seen this Mystery Critter before. They are a favorite of kids and kids-at-heart, alike. But you gotta be quick! Grab the kids and a pair of binoculars and get out there! Even of you don’t spot today’s critter, there is so much wonder awaiting you. Mother Nature never fails to deliver.

Don’t forget to let folks know about what you see! Join the Wildobs community and report your wildlife observations. It’s a great way to keep track of your wild adventures and share info with others.

And, because I am all about having fun — a little old school cartoon before we head outside. @peasandbananas this one is for you!
