Mystery Critter #9

I see you!
Happy National Get Outdoors Day! It’s that time again — time to play Mystery Critter! Let’s have a little fun and put your wildlife knowledge to the test. So put on those thinking caps, my nature detectives, and see if you can solve this week’s mystery.  Have fun — and no cheating!

CRITTER CLUES:

  • You could call me loud;
  • I live near the water — lakes, rivers, and saltwater estuaries;
  • You might say I am having a bad hair day;
  • I can be found throughout southern Canada and most of the United States; and
  • My diet is mainly fish, but I also eat mice, lizards, insects, and crabs.

What am I? Make your guess, and then go here for the answer and more interesting facts. Did you get it right?! If not, no worries — you’ll have another chance next week!

You might hear this week’s Mystery Critter before you see him. To celebrate National Get Outdoors Day, grab the kids in your world and go for a hike to see what wildlife you can spot near you.  You never know what Mother Nature has waiting around the next corner. And let folks know about it! Join the Wildobs community and report your wildlife observations.

  1. Hmmmm! The “bad hair day” clue is throwing me off. I’m going to think on it more before I click over to the answer.

    I’m here for the first time today via Twitter and I have to say I am so delighted to have found you! I completely concur with your perspective on childhood – and my girls have the skinned knees and stained clothes to prove it. I saw in one of your tweets you are feeling under the weather today; I am, too, but now I have lots of reading to keep me distracted here on your site.

    So wonderful to have “met” you – feel better soon!
