Today’s Frolic Friday is dedicated to putting your best foot forward! Let’s get out there and explore the nature nearby, or expand our range a bit and see what nature has in store farther away from “the nest.” After a busy week, there is nothing better than stretching your legs and letting some time outdoors restore your body, mind, and spirit — for kids and adults alike. So, leave the MP3 players at home and let’s get going!
- Go on a scent hike with the kids. There are so many things in bloom right now — count the number of different scents you detect in your neighborhood or favorite park;
- For older kids, have them draw a map of your neighborhood with a walking route marked off in red and lead you or a group of friends on a fun walkabout. If old enough, they can replace the route markings with clues and then your walk becomes a mystery to solve, too; or
- Visit a state park and go hiking — go a little further afield this weekend. Not one nearby? Any local trail system will do. Visit Rails-to-Trails Conservancy to find a trail near you.
Whether you hike, bike, or stroll, getting out on a trail is a great way to explore nature and take advantage of free community resources. As always, it doesn’t matter WHAT you do, just make some time to play outdoors this weekend. (For additional ideas, check out previous Frolic Friday posts.)
